South Shields, known locally as ‘Shields’ is a town based at the mouth of the River Tyne.
The beach features a large sandy bay on the South side of the river Tyne. There’s a sea wall to the North End and a cliff / rocks to the south. Expect to find a mixture of waves and flat water shredding, at different states of tide.
South Shields will work on NNW around to SSE. The best directions are N around to SE.
We're not sure if there's enough beach to launch and land at high tide. Can anyone enlighten us please?
Depending on the tide state, you'll find waves and flat water to satisfy both waveriders and freestylers/wakestylers.
Note: Having not flown at this beach, we can't vouch for the quality of the waves. Can anyone fill us in?
When the winds are right, South Shields is popular with the local kite surfers. If you visit, be sure to say hello. NE kite surfers are usually a friendly bunch.

Weather Forecast & Live Readings
I’m hoping at some point to get a decent feed into the site for weather, but until then here’s a link to 7 day wind forecast for South shields.
And if you’re wondering if it’s on right now, there’s the Met Office reading taken hourly: Current wind reading Albemarle (this is a little bit inland, so on any wind with east on it, you’ll probably find it a bit stronger at the beach).
