Area: Kitesurfing in Wales.
Newborough is situated on the South West Coast of the island of Anglesey, North Wales. It’s a beautiful unspoiled spot featuring miles of golden sand, backed by sand dunes. Kitesurfing is in the Llanddwyn Bay.
Newborough Beach will work on anything from SE around to W. Westerlies tend to be gusty.
Newborough can be sailed on any state of tide.
Expect flat water, chop and waves. A bit of something for everyone.
If you see anyone struggling with a crashed site be sure to go and help them before their kite is shredded on the mussel beds. One day that person could be you!
Kitesurfers can only set up on the left hand side of the beach (looking out to sea). Turn left when you come through the sand dunes to set up and you'll be OK.
- Car parking at the Forestry Commission Carpark
- Camp sites
- Mussel beds - these will cut your bare feet, best to wear boots here
- Overcrowding, this is a very popular spot
- The wind. Take careful note of what size other kitesurfers are using. The wind comes in sets and may end up much stronger than when you set up
Getting There & Parking
Parking is at the Forestry Commission car park. Parking costs £3. Postcode for sat nav purposes is LL61 6SG.
From the village of Newborough, take the minor road down to the beach car park.
Weather Forecast & Live Readings
I'm hoping at some point to get a decent feed into the site for weather, but until then here's a link to 7 day wind forecast for Newborough, Anglesey.
And if you're wondering if it's on right now, the best report is probably live readings at valley, from the Met Office.
